The woman was in bed, and ignored the two young men when they knocked on her door. Minutes later she heard her back door pried open and someone coming into her home.
Police say she did exactly what she needed to do.
About 9:30 Wednesday morning Martina Cleveland was in bed in her War Eagle Drive home when she saw these two young men walk across her yard to her door. Then, they knocked on her door. Cleveland said "I never thought in a million years someone would break into the house while I was in here."
Cleveland and her husband Malcolm installed security cameras on their home after burglars broke in July 14th, taking a game system and I Pad. The cameras caught the two men standing at the front door knocking several times. They then went into the back yard. One of them picked up a tool and went to the back door, and pried it open. Cleveland said "I immediately got up and called my husband and then called the police."
The two burglars heard Cleveland calling 9-1-1 and ran. Because of the description she gave police, they were caught in minutes. Dougherty County Police Captain Tom Jackson said "The victim yesterday did the right thing, She picked up 9-1-1 and called the police. And that's what we need. "
20 year old Keyshon Stephens was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal trespass, along with a 16 year old juvenile. Police say the two are involved in a number of other burglaries in that area. Jackson said "This really helped up clear up a lot of burglaries."
Cleveland said she is still shaken. Cleveland said "Can't sleep really. Just think about it. Playing it over and over in my head. On how many situations it could have been the outcome."
But her outcome was good, because police say she did the right things.
