LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Marijuana will stay illegal under federal law.

The Drug Enforcement Agency will not reclassify marijuana in order to remove it from the list of most dangerous drugs.

The Agency reviewed the classification for marijuana after requests from the former Governors of Rhode Island and Washington.

The DEA said that it's not safe and it has a high potential for abuse.

Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals said people may disagree but his deputies will uphold the law.

"You know saying it's not harmful or it's better than, it's not as harmful as alcohol. People driving under the influence of alcohol. But it is harmful," said Rachals.

Rachals said his deputies have seen less marijuana in recent months.
