ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It has been a pretty wet week in south Georgia and Georgia Power wants residents to stay safe.

There are three things residents should keep in mind during summer storms:

  • Avoid downed power lines.
  • Turn off electrical appliances before a storm.
  • And watch out for any utility crews while driving during bad weather.

"We don't like for the customer to be out. We want them to get back on as quickly as possible and we're going to do what it takes to do that," said Georgia Power Manager Jay Smith.

Georgia Power has a power outage map that both the public and customers can access.

Residents can also sign up for alerts about power outages in their area, report outages in their area and get information on preparing for bad weather and what to do after a storm hits from the Georgia Power website.
