THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Students at Harper Elementary are being challenged to read one million words this school year.

The principal Melvin Hugans visited classrooms today to talk about the reading program.

To motivate them, Hugans said each students that reaches the goal will get an i-Pad or a Hoverboard.

The school is able to fund the prizes through "secret donors" in the community.

"I really hope that we can take advantage of that and give our students an opportunity for taking on the challenge," said Hugans.

In past years Harper elementary has struggled with test scores.

Hugans hopes that this reading program will help students with testing in the future.
