TIFTON, GA (WALB) - There's been a shortage of blood donations in South Georgia, but some Tifton residents are coming together to increase the supply.

Walmart and One Blood held a back-to-school blood drive Friday.

Donors helped stock local hospital shelves with live-saving blood.

"I think the blood donated here probably goes to the local communities. There's a lot of accidents in our area. There's a lot of emergency surgeries where they do not have enough blood," said Joe Wayne.

Donors like Wayne walked away with a $10 Walmart gift card to stock up on tax-free school supplies.
