TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

High school football players in Tifton played scrimmage games on Thursday, with one goal in mind: to collect soap.

Tift County High School and Tift County Touchdown Club held its 15th Annual Soap Bowl.

While the students in grades sixth through 12th played against each other, the school collected liquid washing detergent to use to clean the uniforms.

"We have to wash the pads and the jerseys and practice plans and all that every week and sometimes several times during the week," Tift County Touchdown Club President Spud Bowen.

More than 1500 people attended the games.

The school estimates they will collect three truck loads of detergent.
