According to GSP, a man died after traveling off the shoulder of Lawson Mill Pond Road near the Lowndes County line.

Officials said that Devontae Head, 18, of Quitman was driving a red Ford Explorer west on Lawson Mill Pond Road. The vehicle went off the north shoulder and Head overcorrected, causing the Explorer to rotate counter clockwise and travel off the south shoulder and down the embankment.

After leaving the road, the vehicle overturned onto the passenger side and the roof of the vehicle hit a tree. Then it flipped back onto its tires.

Head was pronounced dead at the scene by the Brooks County Coroner Mike Miller.

GSP said that Head was wearing his seatbelt and officials did not see that there was any airbag deployment.

Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.
