CALHOUN CO., GA (WALB) - A $50,000 bond has been set for Shakera Burns who was charged in connection with the murder of an inmate at Calhoun County State Prison.
A bond was negotiated with her attorney prior to the hearing so Burns did not appear in court today.
District Attorney Joe Mulholland said she has significant ties to the community, and they don't believe she is a flight risk.
"She had no criminal history, significant ties to the community and so after speaking with law enforcers I think everyone was on the same page. She's not going anywhere and she'll face these charges once she's indicted, if she's indicted by the grand jury in Calhoun County,"said Mullholland.
Burns was employed with the Calhoun State Prison for about a year before her arrest.
She is expected to go before the grand jury this fall in Calhoun County.
