CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

A new agreement between Cordele Intermodal Services and Kia will allow the automaker to double the cargo its moving through Cordele.

Kia, which will move shipments of imported auto parts through the site daily to supply its manufacturing plant in West Point.

Governor Nathan Deal says the Cordele facility started out as a one way track moving agricultural produce, and now it will be a two-way system that will help alleviate truck traffic on the roadways.

"It's about 530,000 miles, I believe every month, of truck traffic, that will be eliminated by putting those containers on railways and bringing them here to Cordele," said Governor Deal.

The agreement enables Kia to move up to 30,000 container units through Cordele each year.
