LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -
The Lee County basketball team has a big trip ahead of them come winter, and is looking for community support to get them there.
The Trojans were invited to participate in the Clovis Elks Christmas Tournament out in California.
The boys team is looking to raise $8,000 dollars to fund the 4-day trip in December.
One former Trojan has already taken action for the squad that just came off a playoff season.
Leonard Wright played for Lee County decades ago, and just donated $1,000 dollars to the cause.
He said it's an opportunity his team never had, and it will grow them as young men as well as basketball players.
"To be able to experience getting on a airplane, to go to California, spending a week there," said Wright. "That experience can help take them somewhere in their life. It'll be something they never forget. To see the smile and make a kid get that type of exposure, it's good fulfillment for myself."
The trip starts December 27th, and the Trojans have a GoFundMe account for people to donate.
