TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The annual water drive for Tifton and Tift County’s firefighters wraps up on Sunday, July 31, 2016.

“Like every tool that we have on this truck, water is by far one of the most important,” Tifton firefighter Kiefer Daughtry said.

With the scorching South Georgia heat and 1000 degree house fires, it’s crucial that firefighters stay hydrated.

Each morning, the Tifton firefighters have to make sure that every truck is stocked with ice and water.

With 33 full-time firefighters on staff, the water around here goes fast.

“It’s something that we use all the time,” Daughtry mentioned.

A few years ago, Nicole Taylor started the water and Gatorade drive to help these first responders.

“It was just something that I knew they needed,” Taylor told WALB News 10.

So far, the drive has brought in around 170 cases. Taylor said they care close to exceeding their record.

“We’ve received over 200 cases before,” Taylor said.

Daughtry said the bottles collected during the annual drive usually lasts them a year.

The firefighters appreciate the community’s support.

“It’s just awesome knowing that our community is behind us 100%,” Daughtry added.

There is still time to make a donation.
