CRISP CO., GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County woman has been charged with aiding the escape of a jail inmate.

Michelle Benton was arrested Wednesday afternoon along with Jerry Tranbarger, 33.

Tranbarger escaped while working a housekeeping detail at Dougherty County Police headquarters.

The Dougherty County jail inmate and Benton were found about 20 minutes later in a car at the A & S Food Mart on Moultrie Road. Officials said that her level of involvement in his escape is still under investigation.
