ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Lee County School System and community put on a welcome celebration for 35 new teachers joining the system.
The Chamber of Commerce gave the new teachers gift packages including school supplies, gift cards, candy, shirts, hats, and blankets.
The new teachers say they're excited to get started.
9th Grade English Teacher Lauren Perkins said "It really is, and this year especially. Making the move to Lee County Schools. Everybody's been so welcoming. It feels like home."
9th Grade English Teacher Mary Jo Anderson said "It's really exciting for me this year. I'm really looking forward to it."
The Lee County system expects 6400 students this school year, about the same as last year.
They have about 400 teachers in their 8 schools.
Classes begin August 5th.
