Man celebrates 60 years at Tifton business

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

A Tifton man was recognized Wednesday for spending 60 years on the job.

John Davenport, 82, is still an active employee at Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration.

He began working for the company, formerly known as Larkin, in 1956.

According to Davenport, his wage at the age of 22 was $0.90 an hour.

Davenport moved to the Tifton facility in the 1970s where he continues to work today.

He had some advice for today's workforce.

"Stick it out. Stick it out. Do your best," said Davenport.

The company's vice president attended today's celebration as well as Davenport's wife and son.

At the end of the ceremony, Davenport was awarded with a few gifts including a new riding lawnmower.
