ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

On Tuesday, the Albany Public Works Department received the Project of the Year award from the Georgia Chapter of the American Public Works Association.

From several dozen entrants, the Broad Avenue Bridge was chosen as the best public construction project in the state from $5 million to $25 million.

"We just glad that we were able to win it for the city of Albany and with the DOT we share the award with the DOT because they actually funded it and helped us construct the bridge," said Bruce Maples, an Albany city engineer.

The program recognizes outstanding public works projects throughout Georgia.
