ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany's property tax rate is going down, and leaders are planning to fix a problem on one Albany road.

On Tuesday, city commissioners approved a millage rate of 9.808.

That's a slight decrease from the rate of 9.853 from the last fiscal year.

Commissioners also voted to block off a road, hoping to solve what leaders describe as the worst illegal dumping problem in Dougherty County.

People dump all sorts of stuff on Silica Drive.

The city will now put up a gate.

The only people allowed through will be people who live on the road and emergency and utility crews.
