DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Results are in for this year's Georgia Milestones testing.

The Dougherty County School System improved in multiple areas but still lags behind state averages.

The middle schools showed improvements in every grade level with the exception of Merry Acres.

Robert Cross Middle School is performing higher than both the region and state.

The system will break down each school and grade level to try to build on the improvements.

"It's just like in any organization. You take the parts of your organization that are performing well, you develop the best practices, you communicate those to under improving areas and expect things to improve and get better. I think that is what we are going to have to do in our situation here," said J.D. Sumner of the Dougherty County School System.

This is just the second year of the Georgia Milestones testing.

During the upcoming school year, testing in social studies and science will only happen in 5th and 8th grades.
