ALBANY, GA (WALB) - This past Saturday, WALB was proud to team up with four local animal shelters, in the first ever Clear the Shelters Event.
The goal was to encourage those looking for a pet, to adopt from a local shelter.
The Valdosta Lowndes County Animal Shelter, Best Friends Humane Society in Worth County, Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society and the Lee County Animal Shelter all participated, by lowering their adoption fees, or removing them all together.
And we are so happy to say that the event was a major success.
All four shelters adopted out more than a dozen animals, and for the first time ever, Lee County was able to clear their dog kennels for the first time.
Mike Sistrunk, Lee County Animal Shelter said, "It had two things. One I think is the animals found a home, and I also think that it helped out to regenerate the enthusiasm for our shelter."
We want to thank the four local shelters who participated, and most of all, thank all of you who decided to adopt a shelter dog or cat into your family.
