ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Alumni from Monroe High School showed their tornado pride after the school won a national award.
Monroe was named the best high school in Steve Harvey's Annual Neighborhood Awards.
Principal Vinson Davis is now back from Las Vegas where he accepted the award over the weekend.
He brought the plaque to the school on Monday and said the Monroe community is strong, and that he was confident they'd get the title.
"The Monroe community has always been committed to the institution of learning, to the kids that are here and to the entire Albany community. The neighborhood awards are all about uplifting communities and the Monroe High School community truly embodies the spirit of that award," said Davis.
"You know you look back and you think and you just know that one day, Monroe will known all over the world and here it is," said alumna Rutha Harris.
Alumni met in the school lobby on Monday to take photos with the plaque and there will be a celebration at the high school at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
