Officials are investigating the cause of a house fire in Lee County.Firefighters responded to the scene on the 200 block of Sandy Beach Road early on Sunday morning. Around 4 p.m., they were called back out to put out hot spots.
They said the home was vacant and being remodeled. No one was inside when the fire broke out.
The two story home has cinder block walls making the firefight tough.
"The fire originated down in the basement area of the back side. We couldn't put anybody in there because of the fear of collapse of those walls. Our intent is to bring in an excavator in the [Monday morning] and knock those walls down and get in there and see if we can see anything from there," said Chief James Howell.
Chief Howell said the battle was also tough because there are no hydrants nearby. Trucks had to shuttle water to the scene.
