ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County School System is working to bridge the digital divide and help students who don't have internet access at home.

The system will buy equipment to provide wifi hotspots to up to 1,000 students so they can use their school-issued laptops or computers at home.

"It feels good that the community members are out looking at things that they can assist with Dougherty County and the community to make the community a better place," said Dougherty County School Board Chair Velvet Riggins.

A $400,000 grant will pay for the technology which will be available to students this upcoming school year.
