ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Museum of Art will host its first hip-hop and art event on Thursday, July 21, 2016.
Currently, the museum features two exhibits that relate to street art.
One exhibit is called "Motion Forward: Street Style" and features the work of two New York street artists. The second exhibit is "Sneakerhead" which features an impressive collection of sneakers.
Organizers said Thursday's event with hip-hop and spoken word will complement the two exhibits.
The museum's executive director Paula Williams told WALB News 10 that the museum is trying to think outside the box when it comes to future exhibits.
"It's not your grandmother's museum. We're trying to shake it up a little bit here and be sensitive to our ever-changing community," Williams said.
Spoken word poets will be in the Haley Gallery beginning at 7:00 p.m., and a local rap battle will take place around 8:00 p.m.
The event ends with a performance from hip-hop group Unbreakable Bloodline.
Albany Fish Company will be at the site selling food and drinks.
Tickets are $15 at the door.
