Bainbridge man wins a million in the Lottery

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - With information from the GA Lottery-

James Kirkland Jr., bought some tickets for the $1,000,000 Grand Casino game, and won the $1 million top prize.

The Circle K Store on Dothan Road in Bainbridge, sold the winning ticket on July 5, and Kirkland claimed his winnings three days later.

"I had gotten off of work and bought three tickets, and scratched them in the car," he said.

Kirkland, 55, could not believe his luck. "I thought that I was dreaming," he said. "I started dancing in the store. I've been smiling all week."

As for where part of the money will go? "I want to buy a truck: a Chevrolet Colorado."

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $17.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education.

Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program.

More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
