THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A south Georgia animal shelter is now facing a civil lawsuit.

The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society seized over 70 dogs that were hoarded on a property in Brooks County.

The owner, 78 year-old Richard Jerry McLeod is now suing the shelter.

He said he never gave them permission to take the dogs and now he wants them back.

The shelter's executive director released this statement:

It is very disappointing that we have to switch our attention and take time to fight this legal claim.

The case will go before a judge in August.
