ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
After seven straight days days on the course in Atlanta, Albany's very own Colin Bowles has returned to the Good Life City--not empty handed.
Bowles won the Georgia State Golf Association Amateur championship this afternoon.
The 16-year-old golfer became the youngest to claim the title since Bobby Jones did it at 14-years old --a century ago.
Bowles defeated Spencer Ralston in the final, but it didn't come easy. He finished 1-up, and early on in the match he was as far back as 3-down.
But the kid out of River Pointe Golf Club was relentless in pursuit of the trophy.
"Anything can happen, one hole at a time," said Bowles who didn't feel comfortable until he finished his putt on the 18th. "I made an eagle on 12 and I think that kind of switched momentum and momentum is a big part. I thought if I made it to match play I could have a good chance at winning but that was the main goal, just to make it to match play."
Next up for Bowles is the U.S Amateur qualifier in two weeks.
