AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

A volunteer group uncovered a piece of history in downtown Americus.

A group from Alpharetta Presbyterain Church discovered a century-old mural while renovating the second floor of the Fuller Center for Housing.

The old artwork was an advertisement for the Ballard Obelisk Flour company.

"There's something special about discovering artwork. It's in sense what was once kind of thought as a private location has now got this historic and public ownership to it," said Kirk Lyman-Barner.

The Fuller Center notified the local historical society about the find.

They also hope to get help from the Georgia Southwestern State University's art department to preserve the mural.
