TIFTON, GA (WALB) - The city of Tifton named an interim city manager.
Hunter Walker was the final pick.
He served as the city manager from 1988 to 1995.
He recently retired as county administrator in Santa Rosa County, Florida.
For the time being his family will stay there.
City leaders said with his experience and knowledge of Tifton, he will help the city continue to thrive.
Walker is only expected to hold the position for three to six months.
Mayor Julie Smith said she is actively looking for someone long term.
"We want to move as quickly as possible but at the same time we want to take our time so that we find the right person who is a great fit for Tifton and who is going to have the ability and the knowledge to move us forward," said Smith.
One of Walker's responsibilities will be to help the city do just that.
He starts the job on Monday.
