MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) -

A former Mitchell County correctional institute employee is facing 11 felony charges.

Stedmon Jones was arrested after Pelham police investigators say he used a city-issued gas card to purchase gas for a personal car.

Jones worked as an inmate work detail guard and was given a gas card to fill up the transport van.

Police began investigating when they say his gas purchases didn't match his work schedule.

"I called him in and he subsequently confessed, yeah, he was stealing gas. And all I had was last month and I was able to file 11 felony warrant charges on him," said investigator Adam Lamb.

Investigator Lamb said Jones put nearly $300 on the city-issued gas card in one month.

The investigation continues.
