DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Since 2013, the Dougherty County School system has made a number of internal changes. 

This past week, they were recognized for their hard work at one of the largest gatherings of educational leaders in the state. 

Members of the senior leadership for the Dougherty County Schools presented on how they managed to turn the school system around. 

Their secret, a sense of open and transparent communication and accountability.

"When you look back in time there has been an abrupt shift in the Dougherty County School System, in our academic performance, in terms of cooperation and collaboration with other organizations and our community image," said Dougherty County School System representative JD Sumner.

Moving forward, they hope to make even more improvements starting with new teaching tools and techniques as well as the launch of their new career academy.
