ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Department is recruiting for its next Citizens Police Academy.

The classes are open to people 18 and older who want to learn about the day-to-day job of police officers.

Organizers say enrollment has been low in recent years, but with all the attention lately on how police interact with the public, they hope there will be more interest.

"When we get individuals that sit with us for 12 weeks is that in some way their perception and their attitude toward the Albany Police Department changes in some way," said APD Public Information Officer Phyllis Whitley-Banks.

Those interested can apply on the City of Albany website through July 25th for the classes that start on August 16th.
