AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - With summer in full swing, severe storms are more likely. One EMA director reminds you to do something that could save your home.
He's reminding you to check trees around your home.
Several trees around Americus and Sumter county have been knocked down during strong wind gusts. One damaged a home and several others knocked out power. Several of the traffic lights in town were out.
Sumter County EMA Director Nigel Poole says these dead trees will come down much easier. He recommends you check your yard, and pay attention to watches and warnings.
"Anytime you see that were under a severe thunderstorm warning or watch, just be very vigilant paying attention to the skies. Be mindful and paying attention to the changing weather conditions," said Poole.
Much of that damage is now cleaned up in Americus. Georgia Power was able to restore power last night, and luckily no one was injured.
