ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County volunteer church music leader is accused of running a high-tech marijuana grow operation at his home.
Ronny Massey Jr., 41, was arrested Sunday afternoon after running from Dougherty County Police on his motorcycle.
ADDU agents searched a house in the 1500 block of Broach Avenue, where they found a marijuana grow operation.
A storage facility was being used to manufacture marijuana, and agents confiscated six pounds of marijuana and plants worth more than 15 thousand dollars.
In the home, they found about pound of marijuana ready to sell and $1,100 in cash.
Investigators said the operation used high tech equipment to avoid detection.
Massey is charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Massey also faces an additional charge of fleeing and attempting to elude after he ran from police.
"It's surprising to me. For this particular community. We haven't had any complaints in the area. No one has contacted us about any types of smells or odors in this area," said Major Prurince Dice, ADDU Commander.
Massey was a volunteer music leader at the Commons Church.
The minister said he was completely shocked by the news of Massey's arrest.
