Driver identified in Turner Co. high-speed chase

TURNER CO., GA (WALB) -

A man is in custody after a multi-county, high-speed chase ended in Fitzgerald.

Turner County Sheriff's deputies tried to stop Stephen Nastasi, who was headed to north Georgia in a rented Chevrolet Camaro just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, when he was clocked going 125 miles per hour on the interstate.

Nastasi, who the sheriff said was drunk, reached a speed of about 154 mph trying to run from authorities.

The chase ended when he missed a turn at Merrimac Drive and Lower Rebecca Road and ended up in a pecan field.

Nastasi is charged with speeding, suspended license, attempting to elude, reckless driving, failure to stop at stop sign and driving under the influence.
