DAWSON, GA (WALB) - The family of a 9-year old Albany girl who is battling a brain tumor needs help to pay her expensive medical bills.
A fundraiser will be held this weekend to try to help.
Calyn Kendrick's medical problems started at birth when she needed open heart surgery.
In October, doctors found a tumor in her brain.
Surgeons removed the tumor, but a small bit was left on her optic nerve.
She is now working to undergo chemo.
Family members say it's an emotional battle, but she remains the most optimistic.
"She's very encouraging. She is even encouraging others when we are kind of like... our nerves are racing and nerves start racing and she is the person that says you know it's going to be okay. Everything is going to be fine," said Krystal Pickett, cousin.
The Carnival - Going Higher for Calyn will be held Saturday in Dawson from 9 to 3 in the field beside the Allbritten Center.
There will be food, games, a train ride and a yard sale.
