ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Chief warns officers are seeing a rash of thefts from cars.

He wants people to take steps so they don't become victims.

Wednesday afternoon, Albany Police arrested two men in the East Albany Walmart parking lot who were seen walking from car to car looking inside.

When officers approached them, they both ran.

Albany Police Chief Michael Persley wants you to keep your guard up against thieves.

"You can't get too lax and just think, well you know I'll leave something in the vehicle. Please take everything out of your vehicles that's of value. Lock your doors," said Persley.

Both those arrests were made in the middle of the afternoon in a crowded parking lot.

The Chief says if you are parking your car at night in a shopping center, park it under a light.
