ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Summertime thunderstorms are in the forecast and Georgia Power has advice to minimize storm damage.

During a thunderstorm, they recommend people turn off their air conditioner, avoid telephone landlines and unplug electric appliances.

They also remind people to never touch a downed line or pull limbs off power lines.

"There's no guarantee that just because the power line is on the ground that it doesn't have electricity in it. When only knows it doesn't have electricity in it once our crews get there," said Georgia Power Albany Area Manager Jay Smith.

Customers can subscribe to an outage alert service on the Georgia Power website.
