DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

The family of a dead Dougherty County man have filed a lawsuit against the Dougherty County Police, three of the department's officers and the Dougherty County Coroner.

The family of Jake Embert filed the suit last week in Dougherty Superior Court.

June 28, 2014 Jake Embert died from a gunshot to the head at his home.

It was ruled as a suicide. Months later his wife Susan was charged with his murder.

Prosecutors said that she staged it to look like a suicide.

The lawsuit said the Dougherty County Police and Coroner Michael Fowler failed to conduct any reasonable investigation, performing no autopsy or toxicology tests.

The Embert family is asking for damages from the county officials.

Susan Embert's murder trial was continued last month.
