Attempted carjacker chased, caught by owner

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A running vehicle may have seemed like an easy target to one car thief, but it ended with his arrest.

39-year-old Joshua French was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and theft by taking a motor vehicle.

Police said that Lavalle Parker left his 2000 Lexus unlocked and running in the East Albany Walmart at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, and that French drove off in the car.

27-year-old Parker is a former state champion track athlete from Lee County.

Police said that Parker chased French and dragged him out of the car and held him until police arrived and arrested him.  

Officials said that French suffered injuries during the fight, and was treated at the hospital.

French is in the Dougherty County jail.
