Child airlifted after near drowning; in critical condition

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Department initially reported that a three year old boy drowned after getting into a pool at an apartment complex.

According to the coroner, Michael Fowler, the child, Prince Wheeler was airlifted to Navicent Health in Macon. As of 11:30AM Wednesday, the child was still in critical condition.

First responders from the fire department performed CPR while EMS was enroute, but initial police reports said the child could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The boy went into the pool at the Nottingham Apartments, at 2337 Sharon Avenue, off Nottingham Road.

According to police, the child wandered to the pool and got through the pool gate. Someone in the apartment complex noticed the child in the pool and recovered the child.

The incident is currently under investigation.
