THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A student at Southern Regional Technical College is now a national champion.

James Potts placed 2nd at the Georgia Post secondary SkillsUSA competition.

The three day competition involved residential and commercial electrical construction

Potts said placing high in this competition was a pleasant surprise

"I did really good on my wiring, I made almost zero mistakes. I made it look really neat which is very important in that type of competition. Mine was one of the neatest looking ones up there," said Potts.

As a silver medalist, Potts brought home nearly $9,000 in tools, which he says will be helpful for a job in the future.

"The ultimate credit goes to God for giving me the ability to accomplish what I did at this years’ National SkillsUSA competition," said Potts.
