THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Four new businesses have opened in downtown Thomasville in the last two weeks.
The owners said plans for new development in the area is why they chose to open there.
"We're always bragging on our neighbors and sending neighbors down here to shop and I know they do the same for us" said 'The Mix' owner, Summer Clark
The close-knit downtown community has led to friendships between store owners like Heather and Summer.
They said the support from other businesses is the reason the area thrives.
"Thomasville is becoming known as that destination spot that you have to visit in the south, you're going to get a unique experience. Whether its a culinary experience, or a shopping experience or a tour or historical experience. Thomasville is the new place in the south to be," said Heather Abbott, South Life owner
South Life has been a nationwide wholesaler for around five years. They opened their first retail store just last week in Thomasville.
The Mix Yogurt company, Joyride Bicycles, and Pottery Frenzy also opened up within the past two weeks. So far all four businesses have seen a lot of customers walk through the door.
"We have to keep telling ourselves we've only been open for a couple of weeks and every week it just gets better and better," said Lisa Gonzales, Co-owner of Pottery Frenzy.
All four business owners are also excited for the new amphitheater right behind them that's expected to be done in April, just in time for the rose festival.
"We were excited to come to this block of the creative district or "the bottom" as heather called it. And be apart of all the new stuff coming especially the park and the amphitheater that will be finished next spring. We are really excited about that too," said Clark
In preparation for what's to come, the mix actually has a back door that they plan to open up when the project is complete. Just outside the door is where the new amphitheater and park will be.
