DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - An educator who influenced the lives of generations of children in Dougherty County was recognized Wednesday for her service.
Thelma Williams retired after 52 years in the classroom.
She spent 50 of those years teaching music at six different schools in Dougherty County.
She ended her career at Radium Springs Elementary.
She was honored at the school board meeting.
School leaders said Williams will be missed.
"To have a full career of fifty years is very impressive," said Dougherty County Schools spokesperson JD Sumner. "It really is quite an accomplishment."
Williams taught an estimated 25,000 students during her time.
