Reward offered to help find suspect responsible for arson

BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -

A family awoken in the middle of the night to the smell of smoke.

A Mother, her daughter, and two small children were home at the time of the fire, Thankfully they were not hurt.

Now there is a reward to help investigators find whoever put those lives in danger.

Brittany Thompson says Wednesday night is one she won't forget. Around 2 am she woke up to the smell of smoke

"I thought it was in my room so I got up and came in here and the house was real smoky," said Thompson

Fear still lingers in the home off Mc Nair Street after investigators declared fire this an arson.

"It doesn't make me feel safe at all," said Thompson

The fire department said the fire started on the front porch of the home.

"Investigator got over there and noticed somebody had set the rug on fire on the front porch," said Fire Chief, Doyle Welch.

The family inside was able to grab a fire extinguisher and put the fire out before calling 911.

Now this family just wants answers.

"Because you never know, they might come back and finish the job off, "said Thompson.

A reward up to 10-thousand dollars is being offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.

"If anybody has any information that would help us to find somebody who set this fire. There was a family living in that house, there was small children in that house and whoever set the fire meant to set it," said Welch
