DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Dr. Lane Price has resigned from the Dougherty County School Board.
She has been a member of the board for almost 4 years now. The move shocked many in attendance.
She decided not to run again for the school board earlier this year because she wanted to travel with her husband.
"Looking at all the different aspects of life as one gets older, sounds that getting back closer to our family made good sense," said Dr. Price.
She and her husband have moved to her old home town in Alabama where she can be closer to her grandchildren.
Price said this was a very difficult decision for her. She fell in love with Albany during her time here.
"I came here on a five year contract with Phoebe to build the Willson hospice house. While here I realized that the schools were floundering and I thought perhaps I could bring the schools back to a better position," said Price.
Geraldine West won this seat in a recent election. The board has not decided what action they're going to take.
