ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A local school district received a new scholarship program.
Governor Nathan Deal's REACH program expanded to Dougherty County School District.
The mentorship program will identify 10 low-income eighth graders who may have a tough time in the classroom.
Dougherty County School System's Spokesperson John Sumner is looking for individuals to mentor the students.
"We have to make sure we have, we find those champions in our community who would be willing to step forward and say we're not only able to give our time and our effort in helping mentor these young people but we're also willing to step forward financially," said Sumner.
Upon completion of the program, the students will receive $10,000 in scholarships.
