ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The city of Albany is getting ready for some 4th of July festivities downtown, and with that comes large crowds and increased security.

The Albany Police Department will have officers patrolling the downtown areas. They encourage people to come out and have a good time, but remind everyone to be safe.

"Especially for the citizens who are kind of wary about what goes on, they are definitely more than welcome. Please come out...It's going to be a safe and fun event. For those that are up to no good and want to do the bad...once they see us they are kind of like...oh there is another one again..there they are again. And that is going to keep all of that down and keep those folks out of there," said Officer William Dowdelle.

Everyone who wants to see the fireworks is encouraged to arrive early.

There will be parking at the Civic Center that will also be patrolled.
