ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Multiple statewide transit projects will receive aid through GO! Transit Capital Program, including Albany’s Transit Center Project.

Governor Deal announced that 11 projects would receive an overall total of $75 million dollars.

Of that aid, $1.9 million dollars will be distributed to Albany’s Transit Center.

City Manager Sharon Subadan says the city is honored to be one of the state’s recipients.

Talks about constructing a new transit center began nearly 16 years ago.

The city wants to build a new two-story building, so the administrative offices and the bus station would be one location.

The building would include a public computer lab, free Wi-Fi, and on-site fare purchases.

They’re also looking on how to make the area safer for both buses and pedestrians.

No word yet on when the funds will be available to the city.
