MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) - An Albany man is recovering after he was shot multiple times and left on the side of the road.
Investigators identified the victim as 21-year-old Rashawn McGhee.
Neighbors who live off of Georgia 3 said that they were completely shocked to hear someone was shot right down the street.
Investigators are now working to find the shooter, and neighbors hope that search will be a quick one.
"People just do awful things to people. They don't care," said neighbor Mary Ivy.
Ivy and her husband live off of Georgia 3, and she said that she was out walking her dog Tuesday night around 6:15 p.m. when she heard the ambulance drive by.
"So I came in and told my husband I said, 'Something's going on,'" explained Ivy.
Just down the road, Mitchell County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting in the 10000 block of Georgia 3 North.
"The resident was coming home from work and as he was driving by, he saw him wave and stopped. He realized what had happened. He said he had been shot. The resident called 911," said Investigator Robert Rumble.
Rumble said that McGhee was shot multiple times and left on the side of a dirt road. Rumble believes McGhee was shot there after someone brought him from Albany to Mitchell County.
"I hate the thought of someone just dumping someone on the side of the road and not care," explained Ivy. "I don't know who could do that, what kind of person could do a thing like that."
Deputies are now searching for the shooter. They said the suspect was driving a burgundy or red Ford Taurus. Rumble said McGhee was in stable condition as of Wednesday night.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.
