AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Crews are demolishing two house in the 600 block of Elm Avenue this week.
Planning Director Josh Roth said each demo costs the city about $5,000.
This home is the 10th one demolished this year.
This is a dramatic improvement from last year when the city demolished less than 5 dilapidated structures.
They hope to do 5 to 10 more by the end of the year.
"We want to make sure we take care of cleaning the neighborhoods up. Dilapidated structures diminish the property values, and they also can encourage crime in the area,"
Roth said the city hopes to do around 15-20 per year.
He said around 200 properties are on the list to be cleared.
