CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

A judge in Camilla denied the recall of four council members after a petition was launched for their removal.

Senior Judge O. Wayne Ellerbee denied the removal of council members Vivian Smith, Annie Willingham, Bryan Campbell and W.D. Palmer, stating he felt there wasn't enough evidence to prove any of the claims.

Residents in Camilla started the petition for removal stating that city leaders violated open meeting laws.

Ellerbee stated that the complaints also included improperly assisting absentee voters.

According to the judge, each council member needed 100 signatures to initiate the recall, but two members did not have enough valid signatures.

The resident group that started the petition has the opportunity to appeal.

The council members will remain in office regardless.
